Ron Shinkman
Editor-in-Chief
Ron Shinkman’s founding of Payers & Providers is a culmination of more than 15 years of experience as a healthcare industry journalist and consultant. In addition to editing several influential healthcare publications, he served as West Coast Bureau Chief for Modern Healthcare, and a staff reporter for the Los Angeles Business Journal. Mr. Shinkman’s work has also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, HealthFax, HealthLeaders and Trustee. He earned a master’s degree from California State University, Northridge and a bachelor’s degree from UCLA.
Steven T. Valentine
President, The Camden Group (California Edition)
Steven T. Valentine leads The Camden Group, one of the nation’s largest consulting firms to hospitals and physician organizations. An expert in finance, mergers and strategic planning with more than 30 years of advisory experience, Mr. Valentine was an early pioneer in turning around distressed hospitals – a service that now enjoys huge nationwide demand. He also serves on the board of HealthCare Partners, one of California’s largest medical groups, on the program advisory board for the University of Southern California’s school of policy, planning and development, and on the boards of several prominent healthcare publications. Mr. Valentine holds a masters degree in health services administration from USC, and a bachelors degree from San Diego State University. He earned certification from the Ernst & Young Management program with the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
Henry R. Loubet
Chief Executive Officer, Paladin Healthcare Alliance (California Edition)
Henry R. Loubet is Chief Executive Officer of Paladin Healthcare Alliance. Mr. Loubet has extensive experience and considerable accomplishments in executive level managed healthcare, hospital administration, and e-healthcare. Henry served as Chief Strategy Officer for Keenan from 2003 to 2016. Previous to Keenan, Mr. Loubet was with United Healthcare where he served as CEO of their Western Region. Prior to United Healthcare, Mr. Loubet was President of Foundation Health of California. Before his time at United Healthcare, he was Senior Vice President and Regional Executive of Health Net. In six years, he led the health plan to grow to 500,000 members. Mr. Loubet also served as Vice Chairman/Chief Operating Officer of the early adopter to the online pharmacy industry, DrugEmporium.com, from 2000-2003. In 1997 Henry was named as one of California’s Top 100 Healthcare Executives. Mr. Loubet serves on a number of the nation’s premier healthcare organizations in Board of Director and Advisory Board capacities, as well as non-profit boards. Mr. Loubet holds master’s degrees from University of Pittsburgh and University of San Francisco, and a bachelor's degree from Rider University, New Jersey.
Anthony Wright
Executive Director, Health Access (California Edition)
Anthony Wright has served as Executive Director for Health Access, the statewide health care consumer advocacy coalition, since 2002. Health Access has been a leader in state and national efforts to fight health care budget cuts, to win consumer protections, and to advance comprehensive health reform and coverage expansions. Wright led fights to pass a first-in-the-nation law against hospital overcharging of the uninsured, and to win a prescription drug discount program despite an $80 million industry campaign against it. Wright's background is as a consumer advocate and community organizer, and he has been widely quoted in local and national media on a range of issues. He worked for New Jersey Citizen Action, the Center for Media Education, The Nation magazine, and in Vice President Gore's office in the White House. Wright graduated from Amherst College magna cum laude in both English and Sociology.
Mark Finucane
Managing Director, Alvarez & Marsal (California Edition)
Mark Finucane is a managing director with Alvarez & Marsal’s healthcare industry group in Los Angeles. His clients include academic medical centers, major teaching hospitals, integrated health systems, university health systems and physician practices. He specializes in strategy, operations improvement, financial management, program development, federal waivers and other policy developments in his engagements. Prior to joining A&M, Finucane spent seven years with Ernst & Young as co-director of their academic medical center practice and as national account leader. Before entering the private sector, Finucane had extensive leadership roles in public healthcare systems. From 1996 to 2001, he served as director of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. He led an effort which resulted in a major reduction of inpatient capacity, a reduction of emergency room utilization and a major expansion of ambulatory care through a public/private partnership with local clinics and hospitals. Prior to that, Finucane was the Director of Health for Contra Costa County, California. He has also held various positions in the San Francisco Department of Health. Finucane earned a bachelor's degree from Wichita State University, and also studied at Trinity College in Dublin. He has attended a variety of senior executive development programs at Harvard University, IBM, and the Transamerica Corporation.
Sherry L. Stanislaw
Senior Vice President, SCAN Health Plan (California Edition)
Sherry Stanislaw is responsible for the overall performance of SCAN’s largest market with emphasis on provider contracting and network strategies. In addition, she leads SCAN’s marketing, communications/PR, product/market expansion, and community outreach functions. With responsibility for building the company brand and competitive position and with a strong operations background, SCAN has grown nearly 60% since Ms. Stanislaw joined the company in 1998. Prior to joining SCAN, Ms. Stanislaw worked for Talbert Medical Management Company, a start-up supporting a large network of staff model physician practices. She started her more than 30-year healthcare career at FHP, a large multi-state health plan. She held a variety of management positions during her tenure. Ms. Stanislaw holds a bachelor's of science degree in organizational development from the University of San Francisco.
Tammie McMann Brailsford
Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, MemorialCare Health System (California Edition)
As the executive vice president and chief operating officer for MemorialCare Health System, Ms. Brailsford is responsible for overseeing the clinical, quality, financial and operational performance of system’s four hospitals, retail medicine clinics and all shared services. Ms. Brailsford also oversees the MemorialCare Physician Society, performance improvement activities for the system and serves as the dean of the Memorial Leadership Academy. Immediately prior to joining MHS, Ms. Brailsford served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. She was responsible for leading the executive team and board, ensuring the continued viability and success of the organization and developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic business and growth plan that reestablished the Aquarium as the premiere cultural institution in the area. Ms. Brailsford has a track record of improving operating systems, organizational culture and financial performance. She has held numerous leadership positions in the healthcare industry, including administrator / COO at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California and CEO of Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospital. Ms. Brailsford is actively involved with the local community having served or currently serving as commissioner of the Long Beach Economic Development Commission, assistant clinical faculty member at UCLA, director on the governing board of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, director on the governing board of the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach, and is a nominee for the American College of Healthcare Executives. Ms. Brailsford holds a master’s degree in healthcare management from California State University, Los Angeles, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Pacific Union College, and a diploma in nursing from Niagara College in Canada.
Jim Lott
Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development, Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (California Edition)
Jim Lott has more than 23 years experience working with California's hospital industry to navigate the public policy and regulatory challenges advanced by federal, state and local governments. He has assisted more than 100 hospital executives prepare for the changes ordered by the federal Affordable Care Act of 2010, and he is a media go-to source on healthcare financing and delivery system issues. As the chief consultant to the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services in California throughout the '80s, Mr. Lott also advised the state legislature on health policy and budget issues for10 years. He currently serves on the board of the nonprofit Insure the Uninsured Project in California, and he is the California State Senate appointee to the Citizen's Financial Accountability and Oversight Commission for the state's stem cell research and development program. Mr. Lott received his MBA degree from the University of Redlands, and he is currently writing his dissertation to receive his doctorate in psychology from the Phillips Graduate Institute. In addition to healthcare policy development and analysis, which he teaches at the California State University, Long Beach, Mr. Lott specializes in marketing management, media and crisis communications management, organizational and management development, strategic planning, governing board development and executive coaching.
